Lama D. Dorjee is a highly distinguished teacher in the Karma Kagyu order of Tibetan Buddhism. He was born in Tibet and grew up in India as a refugee from the Chinese Communist invasion of Tibet.
Lama Dorjee trained for fifteen years in Buddhist philosophy, history and Sanskrit. (He also speaks Tibetan, Hindi and English.) He completed his course of study and received the third and highest degree of Acharya from Sanskrit University, Varanasi, India.
Lama D. Dorjee then accomplished the three-year, three-month retreat in India under the guidance of the Very Venerable Kalu Rinpoche and the Very Venerable Beru Khyentse Rinpoche. This intensive, secluded retreat is like earning a Ph.D. in meditation and Buddhist spiritual practices.
His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa gave empowerments to Lama D. Dorjee and authorized him as one of His Holiness's direct representatives in the United States.
Lama D. Dorjee has been teaching Dharma in the west since 1982. He is known for his joy and humor, as well as his skill in presenting meditation practices in a clear and practical way for westerners.
Lama D. Dorjee is now the resident Lama at the KTC Dallas meditation center. Some of Lama Dorjee's activities of special interest include a week-long teaching and practice retreat each March on 'The Union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen', held at a camp in north Texas. This is informally known as the "Bluebunny Retreat". He also leads several Nyungne purification practice retreats each year, including three successive Nyungne retreats during Saka Dawa, an especially auspicious time for practice which usually falls in June.
